Go-To Greige

This is my absolute go-to this season, and I'm planning on buying a few extra of this lipstick while it's on sale in order to have it for a long time to come. I've been looking for the perfect grey-beige lip color in the drugstore ever since Jeffree Starr launched his liquid liptick line and I saw swatches of Posh Spice, and I've finally found a combination that is absolutely gorgeous.

I've fallen in love with Loreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Silverstone (760) paired with a nude lip liner. Currently I'm using a very beige lip liner from Avon in the shade Nude, from their Glimmerslicks Lip Liner collection, but I plan to purchase several others to see what I like best.

Silverstone is a very metallic, slighty purple-grey color. Though I'm not completely fond of the metallic finish of it, I am in love with the way it looks when paired with the nude liner. It gives off the perfect grey-nude color, without looking like I'm dead, the purple hint adds just a touch of life to the traditional "greige" that most people are loving these days. The color is semi-sheer, lending it to all sorts of play with colorful lip liners underneath. However, since it's a regular lipstick, be ready to reapply as it will wear off after eating, drinking, or hours of wear.

Lately I've been in a lip color rut, and this new color has brought some life into my routine. I'm interested to see what else comes out in the near future that may fall into the "greige" category.

Stay Warm, Cozy and Beautiful
Until Next Time,

The Creative Contour

Walking through the drugstore recently I saw a few things I thought would be useful additions to my makeup routine. But among these was a brush labeled "Contour Brush"on the ELF display, and I was curious. It is a small domed brush, stiff but not overly so. I snatched it up and brought it home. After reading the package I discovered that it was for your eyes, though I had bought it thinking it would be the perfect size for contouring and highlighting my nose.

While it works great for it's intended use of contouring your eyes for a natural look, it is also wonderful for contour and highlight on the nose area and applies the color and blends it beautifully into the skin. I ended up also using it to apply my highlight under my eyebrows as well as on my Cupid's bow because of it's small size and ease of blending. It may also work in place of using the edge of my flat contour brush to get the sharp cheek contour I like.

I'm absolutely in love with this brush after playing with it a few times, I love every ELF I have ever purchased and strongly recommend them to anyone who needs affordable and reliable brushes for makeup. I now own two Small Stipple Brushes, the Eyeliner Brush, the Contour Brush, and their Pointed Foundation Brush (which I'll be posting about another day, but am totally in love with as well) and I plan to buy many more of their brushes to add to my collection because of the affordability and the quality of their brushes.

Facing Stigma: Inked Nation

Recently, I encountered something I have only ever heard of. I suppose it was only a matter of time before it happened, but I never expected it to happen to me personally. I never expected to face this kind of stigma, let alone have someone my age be on the other end of it.

Ever since I was little, I have been in love with tattoos. I used to sit glued to the TV watching artists like Ami James and Chris Garver sharing their art and their clients' stories on TLC's Miami Ink. I knew all about the kinds of negative perspectives on tattoos and their artists, but something inside me always knew that would never stop me. In the past, tattoos have always been given a bad rap because of stereotypes about those with tattoos.

I never thought I would be stereotyped against not only for having my one tattoo, but for my plans to have more as the years go on. But the most shocking part of it for me was that it was someone my age who had said something about it. My tattoo is the most meaningful thing I have ever had done, and with every hardship I face it has been given that much more meaning. Every tattoo I plan to get has the utmost personal meaning behind it, but that hardly matters to naysayers who still believe that only criminals and rebels have tattoos. To those kinds of people the only thing my tattoos will be is meaningless blobs of ink that suddenly make me a criminal, incapable of professionalism, and a horrible parent (when I have kids) or role model to others. Because of this stigma, I have been very careful to only get the tattoos I want that won't be able to be seen by prospective employers so that I can hopefully avoid these issues when in the work place. I personally don't feel like I should have to be worried about whether this will come up in conversation, but for the sake of employment I'm willing to wait to get my arm tattoos done for a while.

My hope has always been that as the younger generations like mine grow up, these old stigmas would die out, but I was shocked to find out recently just how wrong I was. It surprised me to learn that a man no older than myself who I adore, suddenly is uncomfortable with the idea of dating me, not because I have a tattoo, but because I plan to have more of them. It was heartbreaking to find out that my tattoos, both present and future, could keep me from having someone in my life. It made me feel like I have to predisclose that I have tattoos before someone truly knows me in case they will be upset by it later when they find out. But this isn't fair. As long as they aren't vulgar it shouldn't matter to anyone whether I have them or not. It's my body and I can do with it what I want. To know me is to truly understand the meaning behind my tattoos, and to be able to see past them and into who I am on the inside.

Fit Me Foundation: Battle Royale

I took it upon myself to try out both of the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation lines in order to determine which would be best for someone like me with pretty much normal skin. I have my occasional dry patches, but wasn't sure which foundation would work best. Personally, I've always been a fan of the matte finished face, so the Matte and Poreless version was my natural first pick. It made my face have a chalky appearance that I had been struggling with when trying out matte foundations. I went ahead and bought the Dewy and Smooth version instead, and was pleasantly surprised as to how lovely it sat on the skin without looking cakey or chalky. I fell in love with it after several uses and it's now my go to foundation every day. I'm surprised that my skin does not work well with mattifying foundations, but at least I know it wasn't how I was applying it that was the issue. I love using my sponge to apply these, but I've also been known to use a brush as well. I use my Matte and Poreless to cover small areas and add a slight highlight since it is one shade lighter, but o will never again use it on my whole face. I love the formula of both as well as the coverage they offer. They are build able coverage from medium to heavy coverage. I wouldn't say full coverage because my freckles and scars still show through after several applications one over top the other. All in all this foundation is a total win. Both formulations are lovely, however my skin prefers the dewy to the matte version.

Keep warm and Stay beautiful, ladies.

Oldie But A Goodie

I found out today that I'm almost out of my favorite nail polish by Revlon. I can't even tell you how old it is, but it's a gorgeous duo chrome silvery purple that in some lights comes across almost green. It's a long time favorite of mine for my toes when I just need a little shine. Unfortunately, they no longer make the shade "030 Silver Switch". It must have been a seasonal shade because the whole "color illusions" line is gone. It makes me sad to know that once it is gone I can't get any more of it, but it will give me a reason to hold on to it a little tighter and use it less. They have a color out now called "Wild" that seems similar but it's darker and shows mostly green based on pictures. I will be picking it up and comparing them soon. I would love to see Silver Switch make a return to shelves so I can stockpile it.

The Perfume Trials

Over the years I've received various perfume samples with my orders from beauty companies. Though I've been hooked on my current perfume for years and I never wear anything else on the shelf, it felt like maybe it was time to try a few other options and see if I've picked the right one. I'll tell you what decision I came to at the end of the post, but for now here is the list of samples I tried.

Cotton T-shirt by Clean
Imari Mystique by Avon
Bali Bliss b Avon
Just Play by Avon
Far Away Dreams by Avon

Each of these perfumes were very different in scent profile from my normal perfume with Imari Mystique being more similar to my favorite perfume with musky and floral notes. Cotton T-shirt is a very subtle clean, fresh scent very different from my normal scent profile. It seems much more suited to someone who doesn't like floral or fruity perfumes. Just Play was a more fruity note with a clean and fresh finish somewhat similar to cotton T-shirt, also suitable for someone who doesn't like strong perfumes. Far Away Dreams was a very powdery fresh scent, almost like baby powder. Bali Bliss was a floral fresh scent

My perfume is a musky, slightly spicy, floral perfume from Avon and Fergie called Outspoken. I am completely in love with it after many trials of perfumes in the first few years of wearing perfume and buying makeup. The perfumes I've bought have all come from Avon or companies affiliated with them, like Mark. The only perfume close that I tried before Outspoken was Rebel Rose by Mark, which was a lovely musky, rose scent but it was missing something that Outspoken has which made me fall in love with it and made it my holy grail perfume for years now.

This Month's VoxBox: Sally Hansen

Airbrush Legs Makeup Smooth on Perfect Legs in Light

I was sent this product for free from Influenster and Sally Hansen as a VoxBox for trial and rating. I had no part in purchasing this item and I am also not being sponsored in return for a positive review.

I had thought of trying the original spray on version of this product, but was instead sent the cream version as part of the review program for Influenster. Unfortunately, I'm not very happy with the way the cream turned out on me, and it really turned me off to trying the spray can as well.

First, the color was tanner than I am, which would be fine if I intended to apply the product all over my body, but with how much darker than me it is it would be way too noticeable. Next, the color oxidized on my leg and turned very orange, looking like a very bad fake tan. It goes on very sheer as well which was unexpected considering the claim that it will make my legs perfect. It was unable to cover bruises and scars, and even worse it settled into my pores all over my legs making me look spotted. Also, It claims to be water resistant and to not transfer once set, but unfortunately when I applied it and left it to set for 5 minutes, at which point it wasn't tacky at all, before putting a piece of tissue over my leg and gently rubbing the product came off. It also states that it can be removed with water and a rag, so I'm not sure if water resistant is a truthful claim. I'm very sad to say that as much as I had high hopes for this product I cannot say I would recommend this product to anyone who needs any kind of major coverage like I do, or to anyone who spends as much time outside and around water as I do either.

I intend to try the Airbrush Face makeup in the near future, but I will be passing this sample on to someone who will get better use from it than I will. I'll let you guys know what I think of the Airbrush Face product when I have time to pick it up and try it.

Stay beautiful, Ladies!

New! From the Drugstore

So you guys all know that Loreal released their Lumi line recently. It was super exciting to finally see a product in the highlighting realm released by a drugstore brand. The price was a bit steeper than I had expected for the brand, but with a couple coupons to bring the price down I walked out of the local drugstore with both the True Match Lumi powder in Ice, and the Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer.

Now, I've probably said this a hundred times on my blog, but shimmer isn't usually my thing and this powder highlighter has a lot of it. But it's good to try things outside your comfort zone once in a while, and I have kept glitter and shimmer a t a distance for so many years that I figured maybe it's time I gave it another chance. So here I am, trying a shimmery highlight, and a glowy primer. I'm not sure if I'll use the primer all over the face, or if I will select a section of the face where it looks best, but I'm going to give it some different tries before I give up or, hopefully, fall in love with it. I'm not sure what undertone my skin is, but Ice is for cool undertoned skin, so I will have to see if the one that called to me was the right tone for me.

After a few weeks of testing, I'll give you my full opinion on both products, but I'll tell you now that my hopes are to see a nice dewy radiance in my skin that isn't shiny, or glittery looking. Since so many people rave about it, and it looks so great on my YouTube friends I'm hopeful I will enjoy it, but not every product works for everyone so I'm giving it my best go.

Live Life and Stay Beautiful.

Influenster Campaign

Head and Shoulders Instant Relief Oil Control Shampoo and Conditioner

Ladies... I'm totally in love with this one. I've been struggling to find a shampoo that does something for my hair. I kid you not, it's been a losing battle for me until Influenster and Head and Shoulders were nice enough to send me full sized bottles of this new shampoo and conditioner set for free, as part of the VoxBox program. As you guys may or may not know, as a reviewer for Influenster, I am occasionally sent products free of charge with the intention of me giving my honest opinion both on the company's sites as well as on my own personal social media and blogs. First let me say, I was excited to receive full sized products as my first box from Influenster (which I received a few months ago and never managed to get a post up until now), since I had heard that often they only send you sample sized items.

I've always loved the way Head and Shoulders products make my hair feel, but this product is beyond that feeling. They weren't kidding when they said you can instantly feel the oil being taken out of your hair as you massage it in. You can feel a fresh sensation and the scent is amazing. It contains mango and citrus, and smells kind of like limes. Every time I use this I feel like my hair is absolutely buildup and dandruff free, and the oily feeling in my hair doesn't return for days. I tend to rinse my hair every day, but only use shampoo about every 3 days, and with this shampoo I have been able to do this more comfortably without my hair feeling oily and dirty or looking like a greasy mess. I will definitely be repurchasing this one for years to come, because I have never been happier with a shampoo and conditioner than I am with this one. If you've got dandruff or oily hair, and you need a new shampoo I highly recommend giving this one a try.

Stay Beautiful, Beauty Queens.

Balanced and Beautiful

Wet 'N Wild Correcting Palette

Four different shades for creating the perfect face. Yellow to cancel out any blue color from veins and bruising, green to cancel out redness from skin irritation and acne, purple for covering dark spots and neutralizing yellow tones in things like bruising. The fourth color is a pearl white cream highlighter to accentuate the natural features of the face.

I can't speak for the purple color, as I haven't had a reason to use it yet, but the highlighter and the yellow and green colors are beautiful to blend and give great coverage and cancellation of unwanted colors. The highlight is a very gentle pearlized cream which is nice for me because it gives you a more dewy finish to the skin rather than more chunkier glitter which reflects more light, but can look shiny and mimic oiliness. The highlighter isn't my favorite, but I do like it. I'm more of a fan of using the yellow side of my Hard Candy Sunburst Ombre Blush. The yellow color works great for covering blue tones from veins around the eyes and on the face. I've used this multiple times to cover dark circles under my eyes from late nights of studying followed by insufficient amounts of sleep. I've also used it to cover a large vein that shows on my upper chest when I wear lower cut clothing. I've been using green cover up for ages to help cancel out acne redness, sunburn, and other facial redness. I like the formula and blendability of the product in this palette, but I'm still partial to my Physician's Formula stick because it blends in a bit better when using liquid foundation. I've noticed with the one from Wet 'N Wild that it the green becomes a little too sheer because the liquid foundation will move the product around.

Ombre with Ease

Hard Candy Ombre Lipstick in Playful

I'm iffy on this one to be totally honest with you, ladies. I had heard a lot of good things about this lipstick before I went out and purchased it for my own use. However, I am not as happy with it as I thought I would be. I'm not entirely crazy about the color I bought, because for whatever reason the peachy tone on the one side comes off very orange on my lips. I'm also a bit upset with the smell of the product, because it reminds me of crayons which kind of turns me off to wearing it. Finally, the sheer size of the packaging versus how much product you get is upsetting. The casing takes up almost twice the space that the actual product needs.
The formula is super creamy, but stays in the lines of the lips very well without lip liner and doesn't bleed. The colors ombré together very easily. Before I come to a complete conclusion on this product I may go out and purchase another color and see how I feel about it once I like the color more.
There are a lot of things I like about it, but some fairly important ones I could do without. I'd love to see either more product or less packaging...

Shimmer, Shine and Glow

Glow All the Way Ombre Blush in Sunburst

Alright...
You guys know from reading many of my posts, as well as if you read my About Me page, that I'm extremely against glittery face products. However, this blush is kind of the bomb.

Yes... I just said that about an incredibly shiny product. One side of this product is a peachy yellow color, and the other is a nice pink color. Mixing the colors together gives you a gorgeous baby pink shimmer, but my favorite thing to do is wear the yellow as  a highlight, and place the mixed shades over my blush if I want a bit of shimmer over my typical matte blush.
I have used the darker pink on it's own and I do like the color of it, however I find that for spring/summer it adds a bit too much color to my face. I tend to prefer more subtle shades in the warmer months, and deeper cheeks in the colder ones. I do love the way this product as a whole wears. The shine is actually wonderful, because of how finely milled the powder is, and as a highlight the yellow tone really gives the face a lovely subtle glow. The products last all day and, as I've seen on myself at least, they don't smudge off or move around on the skin throughout the day.
This product is as good as any other higher end product I have tried, and if recommend everyone purchase this.

Shop smart and as always stay beautiful!

Better Than Falsies

Ladies, this product may be the best invention ever on a budget. The Hard Candy 1000 Lashes Fiberized Lash Weave Primer is the most amazing thing I have ever tried. Don't like wearing false lashes on a daily basis, but need a little extra length and fullness? This stuff does the trick! I don't really even wear my falsies anymore after trying this product for the first time, except for if I want extra drama, or if I'm doing a photoshoot. I fell in love after one application.

The fibers attached easily and stayed adhered even with me touching my lashes once they were dry. Putting my regular mascara, CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion in Black, over this product covered it beautifully and didn't cause any of the fibers to fall off. This was the part I was most worried about, because I didn't know how well the fibers would adhere to my lashes, and I hoped that they wouldn't peel right off or slide around when the mascara wet them again. Since the primer and fibers are white in color I was very happy to see that my mascara covered them fully without any whiteness showing through.

The packaging looks a little cheap, which made me a little worried about the quality at first, but I have no complaints about this product so far. I love wearing this on a night out to give my lashes a bit more punch and flair. I have very thick and long lashes to begin with, so falsies often are a bit much when people are close up to me. I'm also able to wear this during the day without looking like I forgot to take my falsies off from the night before. I'm very happy to have found an affordable version of fiber lash extensions in the drugstore that work as well as I have heard the high end brands do.

You have got to go out and grab this product. You will not be sorry!

Get them glam lashes on, get out there and have a blast, and as always Stay Beautiful.

My 'Unexpected Event' Kit

I have this little kit that I keep in my car with some items in it for those times when you get stuck somewhere overnight, something comes up out of the blue, or you just simply are in a rush and forget something important. I keep beauty items, lifestyle items, and even some health items in it along with a few things that are just useful . I'll make a detailed list below of what I keep in mine so you can use it to make a kit for yourself. My bag is big enough to hold everything I need, but also still small enough to fit under my drivers seat. Most of the products in this bag are small samples only good for one or two uses or one use testers. My kit isn't meant for daily use or for extended use like on trips, but it is useful for those unexpected nights away from home or impromptu plans with friends.

Along with this kit, I keep a bag in my trunk with a change of clothes I don't mind getting dirty in (in case changing tires or going under the car hood and getting greasy needs to happen), an outfit that looks a little dressy just in case I decide to go out and don't have time to go home and change, and in the winter I keep a couple of jackets and a pair of sweats in case extra layers are necessary to keep warm in emergencies.

Hautelook by Nordstrom (and Lorac Review)

I was introduced to Hautelook about a month ago, and when I was shopping around I came across some Lorac products on sale. I decided, after much indecisive flip-flopping, to purchase the Rockin' Red Hot limited edition mini lip gloss collection. which comes with 8 different shades varying from nude to pink to red and even one light purple. It did take a while for me to receive my order from Hautelook once it was placed, but since I was in no hurry it wasn't so bad.

Shade names are:
Amp (Nude)
Electric (Pink Nude)
Groupie (Baby Pink)
Tour (Petal Pink)
Backstage (Fuchsia)
Solo (Magenta)
Encore (Red Coral)
Rock (Sheer Purple)

Overall I wasn't impressed with the glosses, they were a lot more sheer than I expected, and the color practically disappears on the lips once applied. Some of them have a bit too much glitter in them for my taste, and it wasn't all that finely milled either. The packaging of the product is extremely cute, but I still wish that the colors were more opaque and pigmented. I'll keep trying them and see if my opinion changes, but thus far the colors I have tried have not made me all that excited.

One Goopy, Sticky Mess

My mom was sent a free gift with the Christmas present she bought me from Avon this past year. (Which I can discuss in another post for anyone interested.) Avon sent this lovely Extra Lasting Lip Gloss, which she added to my gift since she doesn't wear makeup. The color is gorgeous, but it's a very pinky red, which I wasn't really expecting when I looked at the color in the tube. In the tube it looked a bit more true red. The name is Always Apple. The smell of the product is kind of sweet, but definitely doesn't have a particular scent.
While it applied smoothly, I wasn't entirely happy when it began to dry on and felt a little like my lips were covered in a kind of tape. The other problem I have with the product is that while it is supposed to be long wearing, no amount of attempts can take it off of my face once it's on. I'm going to keep giving it a try here and there and see if I can make it work for me and actually begin to enjoy using it, but so far it's just a mess for me, because if I make a mistake I can't get it off and fix it, and it turns itself into a kind of "armor" on my lips the longer it stays on me, and gets kind of tacky as well. I'm not totally sold on the color on myself, but I keep trying to like it regardless.

Check back to see what happens, and as always Stay Beautiful!

Low Tide on the Arbonne Ocean

This is one of those products that I tried so hard to love, but I just couldn't. I tried it for months, on and off, hoping that maybe this time I would fall in love with it. I was kind of shocked, because I do love Arbonne so much when I am given products from one of my friends who is a representative, but I just couldn't get into this one. The Aromassentials Awaken Sea Salt Scrub just kind of fell flat for me. It cleanses amazingly, and I love the idea of using salt instead of the sand-like grit that a lot of scrubs use. But I couldn't get past the fact that the soap itself in the product leaves my skin feeling like it's coated in an oily film when I wash it off. I already have some struggles with oily skin and acne, and using this scrub makes me worry it will only make my acne issues worse. I thought maybe I hadn't washed all of the soap off and that's what caused it to feel slick and filmy on my face, so the next time I gave it a try I spent more time rinsing and rubbing it off. But the oily feeling persisted. I love how it makes my skin feel so clean, but it's not worth the risk of breakouts for me to keep using it. I'm sorry to say I will not be repurchasing this product.

I love so many things about Arbonne, but this product is sadly not one of them, not for lack of trying.

The Body Shop Sample Review

Back when I bought my haul from Ulta, one of the product samples they sent me was from The Body Shop. I was really excited to try this sample, since I hardly buy luxury beauty products regardless of the fantastic reviews I hear about them. I was sent The Body Shop's Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream. Sadly, this one disappointed me... I wanted so badly to fall in love with it, but I just couldn't.
And here's why!

I had several really big compliments to give this product:

  • The formula was gorgeously light and pigmented.
  • The company doesn't use tons of chemicals in their products.
  • The products are not tested on animals.
However, I had two huge problems with this product when I tried it:
  • The smell of this product was extremely overpowering (and it didn't go away after it set on my skin) Even though the company doesn't use harsh chemicals in their products the smell was extremely chemical-like.
  • It seemed very fluid, and kind of streaked down my face when I applied it and I had to keep buffing it in until it was set on my skin.

This Year's Upcoming Posts

Okay, Ladies! It's 2015. I'm working on a post currently that should go up tomorrow which will list all my Holy Grail beauty products I swear by and will always reach for when I purchase. After this post goes up I'm going to work my way through the list and review the items one by one in posts throughout the year. I may insert a post here and there that is not on the list simply because you guys know I'm always buying more stuff and trying new things, despite having my tried and true products around. I'm doing my best to get every type of beauty product I use onto the list, complete with names and color or number codes whichever the brand has. Some things I listed a category for, but I haven't got a particular product I reach for, because I'm always experimenting. And some things, like lip liners, I just started purchasing about 3 months ago, and since I have only tried one brand I didn't deem it fair to label it my Holy Grail product because I have no idea if I truly find it to be better than any other products out there.
I'm going to try and do a small segment on men's products as well closer to the end of the year. (I have to try and rope my lovely man into trying products for me and giving me his thoughts though, because I'm not sure me trying the products will yield the desired reviews. Men think differently than I do.) Post comments or email me your thoughts and any products you might be curious about for your men, if this is something you guys would be interested in me trying to get working.

Stay tuned for my Holy Grail list, and more product reviews!

Stay Warm and Beautiful

Winter Skin Repair

One of the samples I requested in my Package from Ulta a while back has become a nightly staple for me during the cold days of winter this year. I have absolutely fallen in love with Vitabath hand cream. It makes my dry hands feel absolutely silky soft, moisturized and rejuvenated after a long day out in the cold. The cream is nice and thick, quick drying, but doesn't leave behind a greasy film behind after application. The scent is salty but in a pleasant way. The scent is called Spring Green. It reminds me of the ocean, which is a wonderful thing to think about in the winter because it reminds me that the warmer days of summer are coming soon.

I use this lotion every night as part of my bed time routine. It helps to remove they dryness from being out in the cold all day.
